How to Make Valentine’s Day Magical for Kids: 8 Fun Ideas

Happy February! Valentine’s Day is always a fun one for me. I like it because it feels not as overwhelming as Christmas or Easter, in terms of making things feel magical and special for kids. I do a few things every year to make the holiday memorable for the kids and it doesn’t drain my energy and time!

Here are 8 fun ideas to make your Valentine’s Day celebration with kids extra special:

  • 14 days of love letters: On the last day of January, I write out 14 quick little love letters for the boys to open each day of February leading up to Valentine’s Day. This does take a bit of time and thought, but a totally worth it tradition to start! Here is a cute heart banner like the one I used to hold each letter.
  • Valentine decor in the house: I keep this holiday really simple with decorating, but a little heart banner here and there goes a long way. Something like this is perfect.
  • Valentine’s Day and love-themed books: I wrote a post a while back of some books I liked for V-Day.
  • Pick out V-Day cards for their class: Back in the day, I would do homemade cards, but now I’m all about store bought cards and letting them pick the themes they are most excited about. This year, T chose Spider-Man and superhero ones and Hudson chose sport ones.
  • Eat something heart-shaped: Heart pizza and heart doughnuts are two of my favs. A few other ideas of places that offer heart shaped foods!
  • Morning gift + card: I do a small little gift I know they will be excited about and a card for each boy. I keep it very simple.
  • Matching Pajamas: These ones are SO cute and tons of sizes.
  • Valentine’s Day Activities: I have a fun V-Day week-long curriculum full of activities for 2-3 year olds. This would make a fun set up on the morning of Valentine’s Day or in the days leading up.

Hope you have a special one!

  1. Hi Kelli,
I am always a sucker for DTL (doing the least- hah!)! I love the heart-shaped food one, as I’m all about pizza and donuts, especially since I’m not in the dental field anymore (trying to do education field things)- thanks for the post!

  2. I wonder maybe about those free rewards that some businesses do on holidays. My late father never seemed to be into freebies, but my mother liked to support my sister and me in grabbing freebies, such as free slurpies from 7/11 on 7/11 (July 11th). Or maybe if we have an app for a place we might get coffee, idk about where the businesses in your area are, but there’s a Dutch Bros really close to my house that I was able to get a really expensive drink for free for downloading the app. You mention the free Starbucks birthday drink in another post. Back a few years ago, I used to get BJ’s Brewhouse (it’s not so much a brewhouse as a fast-casual place) pizookies for my birthday. Anyway, always looking for business freebies but I understand that nothing really is for free like my father would say (: I guess it’s just a sample for what is good at the business.

      1. You’re welcome, and thank you yes I have been well! I’m doing education things- I TA for a great professor named Jordan Pavlic! She’s getting married, too, and I’m so excited for her. I originally thought I would go in and try to ease the burden of being a professor, but she has done way more for me and I really love working with her!!
