Seems like the second week of anything always feels so much harder. I think week one I was literally running off the adrenaline of everything going on with Hudson & the start of something new, but it all hit me more in this second week. I was exhausted (ask Lance!). I realized how training for a marathon at the intensity I want while still nursing a baby and having 2 older kids that demand my attention in different ways is a lot both physically and mentally. All this while in the midst of summer makes for a challenge and a slightly/very grumpy mom.
I have confidence that this phase of exhaustion and weakness will pass and I will come out stronger, but it’s tough trudging through.
Week 2
Mileage: 26 miles spread across 4 days
Cross-Training: Two 20-minute peloton rides and one day where I attempted 10 minutes of core (the baby always seems to wake up in the middle of this and core is always something I put off anyways)
Workout: Same as last week. 10 x hill repeats on same hill. Felt way weaker and more tired this week.
Baby long run: 9 miles
Main takeaway this week is the importance of showing up and continuing to put in the work and mileage even in the grumpiness and exhaustion. One of the reasons I love running is that it has given me the discipline to lace up and hit start even when it’s the last thing I “feel” like doing. Hopefully next week will feel better!
