Happy Weekend! We have a full weekend ahead, but starting this Saturday morning slow. As we near the end of February and baseball season beginning for BOTH boys next weekend, I can sense that things are changing and pace of life is about to pick up. Before that comes, I want to relish these slower Saturday mornings where we are not rushing off to a game.
My recipe to a perfect, slow Saturday?
- No alarms. Wake up when you wake up. For our stage of life that is usually still before 7am, but always nice to get out of bed with no need to rush out the door or make lunches.
- Put something in the oven. This morning, it was turkey bacon and then, chocolate chip cookies. Something nice about starting the weekend with something homemade in the oven. We are heading over to our friend’s house this afternoon and bringing these cookies with us.
- Go for a run. Even if it’s just 30-minutes. This is always my preferred way to start the weekend.
- Chores! Start a load of laundry, have the kids tidy up their room, make them vacuum. We are working on getting the older boys (6 and 3) to help around the house more. So many studies about the connection between starting chores young and creating more successful adults. That’s the goal so they will be doing chores (even through the grumbling).
- Free play. As I’m putting D down for his nap now, I can hear the boys imagining and playing in their room and it’s truly the best Saturday soundtrack. It really is so important that their childhood has margin in it so they can just be kids and play and imagine and create.
- Last, but the most important: time in God’s Word. For me, I spent time in Luke and for the boys, we will read out of the Action Bible (this is such a great engaging Bible that reads like a graphic novel).
Now, onto a full day of a kid’s birthday party and time hanging with friends. Wishing you a wonderful weekend + I hope you too can get some slow time at home.
