NYC Marathon Training: Week 17 + Week 18

Officially in the taper! Last week (week 17) the miles continued to cut down. I had a good workout and fast paces felt more comfortable. I am staying hydrated and doing everything to not get sick (see last post about getting an immunity IV at Hydration Room).

Mileage: 37 miles spread across 5 days

Workout: I had a shorter 8 mile workout. I did 5 x 1000s on the strand. Each of them were a little faster than they were supposed to be and it felt relatively controlled. I ran all low 3:30s. It was nice to have another workout that went according to plans! It gave another little bit of confidence going into the race.

Long Run: 13 miles. Last Saturday long run, even though I’m at the point where 13 miles doesn’t feel that long. I had to get it in before Hudson’s 8am soccer game, so had a good few miles in the dark. It felt hard to dig up the motivation, but I listened to the Set the Pace podcast and they have been interviewing people running the marathon this year so that’s been fun to listen to.

This current week (week 18), I’m doing very low mileage, got my pre-race workout in (testing out the New Balance New York race shoes I’ll be wearing) and continuing to do all the little things to make sure I feel my best on Sunday. For my workout, I did 3 miles a bit faster than goal race pace (6:17, 6:18, 6:26).

Last workout!!!

This whole week my focus is getting race ready. I started the week by getting a massage to help get my body relaxed and remove some of the stress and tension.

I am doing my best to make sure I’m feeling well in these final days. I started drinking tart cherry juice (supposed to help with inflammation) and I have a new batch of energy balls in the fridge for me to snack on. I’m also heading back to Hydration Room for one more boost! This time I am getting the Wellness Infusion with Vitamin C + D3 + B-Complex + Zinc + Folic Acid + B12 + Selenium + Glutathione + Inositol + B6. With a travel day tomorrow, I want to ensure I’m as hydrated as possible. I also have been continuing to have broken sleep with a nursing baby that still wakes up a few times each night. This particular IV is supposed to help with both stress and sleep deprivation, while continuing to protect my immune system. I’ve been definitely feeling anxious leading into the race and hopeful this last boost from Hydration Room will help me feeling confident, relaxed and energized. Use code: KELLI50 for 50% off first IV/injection!

It’s taken a bit for me to write this post and at this point we are already in NYC! We arrived yesterday. It was dark when we arrived and this morning was our first time seeing the city in daylight and it’s been magical. It’s sunny and brisk and every corner I turn I can feel the energy.

I ran a 2-mile shakeout along the High Line and ended at the Expo to pick up my bib and shirt.

Tomorrow is the day and I’m ready for it. Can’t wait to share every detail in the weeks to come, but for now, I’m going to just try to take it all in and get everything set out and ready for tomorrow. LSKD sent the most amazing clothing (I’ve been obsessed with all their running-geared apparel). I’ll be wearing their rep belt, fusion shorts and advance sports bra for the race. I wore the rep 7/8 leggings on airplane yesterday and it was the perfect compression tights to keep my legs feeling good on a travel day.

Ready for you, New York!
