NYC Marathon Training: Week 10

This week was a down week in training. It was lower mileage and a shorter workout. I’ve been tired, so this week came at the perfect time.

Mileage: 36 miles spread across 5 days

Cross-Training: 1 30-minute Peloton ride + core sprinkled throughout week

Workout: Last Wednesday was Thatcher’s first day of preschool. We dropped him off (he did so well!) and then Lance, Declan and I did my workout together. Declan was such a little trooper on the back of Lance’s bike for 8 miles! I did a 3-mile tempo on the last half of the MB 10k course (race I am running early October). The last half has a good hill too, so it was good to practice that. It was a short workout, but finally felt like my paces were able to get a bit faster (6:14, 6:47, 6:18). The middle mile had the hill. Felt like a solid effort and definitely helpful to have Lance there to pace me. Most of my workouts are solo and it can mentally be tough to hit times.

Long Run: 15 miles. It is amazing how perspective starts to change as you’re in the midst of marathon training. After running 16 last week, 15 did not seem too bad. I did a similar hilly PV course for this long run and enjoyed it. I listened to a few of Peloton’s outdoor run classes which helped keep me more focused. I ran on the earlier side (done before 9am), but it still was a hot one and body was totally wiped out. I was stuck in bed for the next couple hours at home but eventually started to feel better. This past week of heat in LA has been rough but thankfully we are already experiencing cooler days.

Body feels rested and ready to bump it up in mileage this coming week. Less than 8 week to go!
